The Importance of Maximizing Your Dental Benefits Each Year

The last quarter of the year tends to rush by quickly. Before we know it, its Halloween, Thanksgiving and then the Christmas rush. This time of year can get very busy and it’s easy to let things like dental care slide.

When we do, there can be serious financial consequences.

Most dental benefits, like insurance, have annual allotments that disappear at the end of the year. If you don’t use them by December 31st they go away forever. If you have treatment that needs to be done, not using these benefits can be like throwing money away.

It is important to take advantage of your benefits each year because:

·        You pay for dental benefits one way or another. Even if you don’t pay the insurance company directly, your benefits are a part of your employment package and factored into your salary negotiation.

·        Some treatment may be able to be spread over more than one year to maximize your annual benefits and help you pay as little as possible.

·        When treatment is postponed, especially if there are several needs, it is more likely that you could have multiple emergencies or things that can’t wait in one year. This can cause you to go beyond the benefit maximum resulting in high out of pocket costs.

If you have recommended treatment and are not sure how much of your insurance maximum is still available, let us know. We can check with the insurance company and create a plan that will help you get the most from what is left, saving you money in the long run.

If you will be retiring or losing insurance in 4 years or less we can help make sure your teeth are strong and healthy before you do, while also spreading costs over multiple insurance years to help you save money.

We encourage you to avoid the end of year rush and plan now for any dental treatment that has been recommended. If you have any questions or haven’t seen a dentist yet this year, let us know.

We are here to help.
