Healthy New Year’s Resolutions for Your Smile

Many of you will make resolutions at the beginning of the year around being more healthy. They might include things like exercise, diet, or changing an unhealthy habit.

We want to remind you that taking care of your teeth would also make a great New Year’s resolution with more benefits than you probably realize. Here are a few:

  • Preventive dental care will save you time, money, and prevent pain in the long run.
  • Your smile will look it’s best when it is well cared for.
  • Bacteria in your mouth can cause both dental and health issues as it gets into your bloodstream when you swallow. Oral infections have been linked to many serious medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and more.

Taking care of your teeth is taking care of your health. Here are some ideas for resolutions that will help keep your smile healthy and happy.

Stop smoking or using tobacco products. Tobacco use can damage your teeth and gums, turn your smile yellow or brown, and lead to oral cancer.

Use your dental benefits. Many people with dental needs skip going to the dentist and leave money on the table when their yearly benefit allowance goes away at the end of the year. Don’t waste the benefits you work for. Use them to keep your smile healthy, prevent emergencies, and make your teeth strong.

Brush and floss daily. You knew this one would be on our list. And, it is because it can make a huge difference in how your teeth affect your life. If you want a beautiful, healthy smile without emergencies or other dental problems, preventive home care is the way to go.

See your dentist and hygienist at least every 6 months. We can catch issues before they become big and expensive and prevent many dental problems we are sure you don’t want.

Minimize sugar in your diet. Sugar feeds the bacteria in your mouth that cause cavities and infections. Your mouth and body will be healthier without it.

We hope you consider some of these resolutions for your smile. If you would like to start with a dental check up, teeth cleaning, or already know you have dental needs, give us a call.

We would love to help you make 2020 the year you make your smile healthy, beautiful, and happy.
