October is National Dental Hygiene Month

Every October we celebrate our hygienists and all they do to keep our mouths healthy. It is recommended that you have your teeth professionally cleaned at least twice a year. Dental hygienists have the education and training, skills and tools needed to reach hard to clean areas and ensure your gums and teeth continue to do well.

While it may seem like they only clean teeth, there is a lot more going on that you may not be aware of. Our hygienists:

  • Are dedicated to your comfort and a positive dental experience
  • Measure the pockets around your teeth, looking for signs of infection and periodontal disease
  • Do a basic exam of your teeth and let the dentist know if there is anything they need to check
  • Diagnose and provide recommendations for gum related issues
  • Clean your teeth and remove dangerous plaque and tartar that put your teeth at risk
  • Provide special guidance or tools if you need them
  • Screen for oral cancer
  • Help you understand any diagnosed treatment
  • Remind you of pending treatment and answer any questions you have
  • Polish your teeth to remove stains and brighten your smile

In addition to all of that they are some of the nicest, friendliest and most caring people you will meet.

To celebrate National Dental Hygiene Month, we encourage you to schedule a dental hygiene visit if you are due or overdue for one and follow the Daily 4:

  1. Brush 2 minutes 2 times a day
  2. Floss or use an oral irrigator every day
  3. Rinse with mouthwash
  4. Chew sugarless gum

We look forward to seeing you soon for your regular dental hygiene visit. If you don’t already have one or need something else, please give us a call.
