How to Protect Your Children’s Teeth

We know you want the best for your children and would like them to grow up free of dental problems. We want that, too.

Here are 4 steps that can support you with this goal of raising children with healthy, happy smiles.

Feed Your Kids Cavity Fighting Foods

The most dangerous foods for teeth are sodas, sugars, and white processed foods like bread and pasta that break down into sugars when they are digested. Cavity causing bacteria love these foods and use them to damage tooth enamel. We recommend choosing teeth friendly foods like:

  • Crunchy fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Sugarless gum

Save sugary snacks like cake, cookies, and candy for specialoccasions.

Take Advantage of the Benefits of Fluoride

Fluoride can help protect and re-mineralize your children’s teeth, but it is important to use it carefully. Too much fluoride can be unhealthy and cause discolorations in their smiles.

The most common sourcesof fluoride are fluoridated water, toothpaste, vitamins, and fluoridetreatments in the dental office. Be sure to let us know if you have any questionsabout using fluoride for your children.

Consider Sealing Their Teeth

Teeth Sealants are an excellent way to prevent cavities. The process is very easy for kids and does not involve any anesthetic. We simply paint a tooth colored material over the high risk pits and grooves of the molars to give them extra protection.

Get Regular Dental Exams and Teeth Cleaning

It is important that we keep watch over your children’s teeth. When issues are caught early, the solutions are simpler and less traumatic for your child, as well as more affordable for you. We will motivate and teach your little ones to care for their teeth and when appropriate give them fluoride treatments to help prevent cavities.

If your children do need dental treatment we promise to take great care of them and make their appointments as stress free as possible. Many of our team members are mom’s who love kids and know how to make them feel comfortable.
