Don’t Let Your Toothbrushes Spread Cold & Flu Germs

It’s that time of year! Kids are back in school and cold and flu viruses are starting to spread like wild fire.

The two most powerful virus prevention habits you and your family can adopt are washing your hands frequently and sneezing or coughing into your arm. Reminding your family to do these can help keep them (and you) healthy during flu season.

Toothbrushes can also become contaminated with viruses and bacteria. To prevent them from spreading sickness from one family member to another, you will want to:

  • Store family toothbrushes in a way that prevents them from touching each other
  • Clean and disinfect toothbrushes often – this can easily be done with peroxide or mouthwash
  • Buy new toothbrushes for anyone who was sick as soon as they recover
  • Clean and disinfect any toothbrush storage containers
  • Get each family member their own tube of toothpaste or remind them not to touch the tube directly with their brush

Most importantly, don’t forget to smile. Smiling can increase your immunity!

We hope you and your family stay healthy and happy throughout cold and flu season. Don’t forget to schedule your regular dental appointments to keep your smile happy too!
